The issue of defining “Antisemitism” is important. The European Union not so long ago said it was unable to define it. I believe its fairly easy to define, but before you’re finished introducing the requisite concepts, the often well intentioned pawn has already started shouting at you something along these lines: “You’re just saying that to make excuses for your hate, to hide it. Hate! Gas Chambers! Jews herded into Gas Chambers by the Millions! DON”T TALK TO ME ANYMORE NEVER CONTACT ME AGAIN!!!!” It can be frustrating. Americans are particularly susceptible to making the above “argument” because of their growing antipathy to the study of history and religion.
I recently encountered a much more savvy argument that was fully cognizant of the historical and religious context of my definition, but countered it with a rhetorically successful fallacy as follows: “You’re blaming the woman for being raped because she was wearing sexually revealing clothing.”

It is distinguishable from other forms of religious elitism as follows: Many Christians believe that only their congregation, denomination, etc, are “saved” and go to “heaven.” True enough, but they welcome converts and their status wasn’t a birth right. Jews on the other hand, were born Jews and laugh at the idea of conversion to Judaism. You’re either Chosen or not when you’re born, and remain so despite becoming an atheist or agnostic later in life. This is the point I believe your post was making, and in my opinion the most important concept in the whole debate, especially considering the limited amount of time we have before being dismissed ad hominem as “hateful.”
